Watts Art Project: Watts Art? Project is an extension of the legacy initiated by Simon Rodia’s Watts Towers, the city’s first public art installation. Based at the St. John’s United Methodist Church, our goal is to help and support community-derived creative projects, an artist in residency program, and facilitate new artistic commissions within the area of Watts. By working in partnership with St. John’s, one of the city’s oldest and more historic structures, Watts Art? uses the creative center of the city as a staging ground and participant in a greater arts community. Much like its parent organization, the Watts House Project, Watts Art? Hopes that by inviting individuals from outside of the community as well as by calling upon its own citizens to participate in the creation of public art works, it will generate a new narrative for the city of Watts.
